About Us
Who is Mollie?
About the Founder
Mollie’s journey began in the 1950s when she opened her hair salon in Woodlawn, Chicago, creating a sanctuary where women could prepare for their entry into the workforce. Serving a predominantly low-income community, she provided affordable services, believing that confidence and self-care should be accessible to all. Her salon became a community cornerstone, empowering women to step into new opportunities with dignity and pride. Today, Mollie’s legacy continues through Mollie’s Greenhouse & Garden, where we cultivate not just plants, but also community, health, and self-sufficiency—honoring her commitment to empowerment and well-being.

What We Provide
At Mollie’s Greenhouse & Garden, we believe that everyone in Chicago can grow something—no matter how small their space. That’s why we specialize in plants that thrive in containers, making gardening accessible to apartment dwellers, urban growers, and anyone with a sunny windowsill or balcony.
We make growing fun and exciting by offering local, heirloom, specialty, and collectible seedlings. Our unique seedling bundles let you experiment with different but complementary plants—so you can test your green thumb and, before you know it, you’ll want to collect them all! ✨
